Day Count What Was Done Time Taken (hrs)

Day 1

Planned my project and my road map to get it completed.

Day 2

Well, I got the website project pages set up and running, as you can see. I also started working on the “Pumpkin Monster”. I have an image below of the body of the pumpkin and its current texture. Hopefully tomorrow I can finish the body and stem, then start working on the bony legs and arms.

Day 3

Day 3 didn't go to bad. I got the stem modeled, it's OK for now. Later I'll have to put some more work into it and add further details. The pumpkin's texture got a once over. I added more bumps and re-worked the vertical indentions. Next on my list is HOPEFULLY getting the camera and shooting my background plates. I will also need to cut out the face segments and the holes for the arms and legs, this might get done over the weekend or on Monday. The link below shows an example rendering of the current pumpkin.

Day 4

Today was a good day. I got the camera and tested it out, it works fine. I should be able to shoot the background plates tomorrow and Sunday and hopefully have them color corrected by Monday, we'll have to see. No new model work, just what I had yesterday. Talk to you later.

Day 5

Today I got the first initial background plate done, it's a walking shot. I really need a Steadicam for this! We'll have to see how this turns out, I think I'm going to have some problems with it considering I shot this during the day, I will have to re color it to make it look like it's night. Why didn't I film it at night you ask??? Two reasons. One, I couldn't film it even if I wanted to because the camera I borrowed won't film in low light situations. Two, I wanted the challenge. Doing it this way will teach me a lot about re-coloring and compositing. The first link below shows the raw footage minus the re-coloring and the second is with the re-coloring.

Day 6

Today I spent the time doing some experimenting with the re-coloring. It looks like it will work out pretty well. I will have to add some twinkling stars in the background and add some fog in the foreground, this will give it the creepy, ghostly effect I am looking for. I will probably work on this later because I am going to re-film my background plate. Unfortunately, because of the very unsteady motion and the lack of time, I'm going to have to make a simpler shot, probably something to the effect of a panning shot only. This will probably get done tomorrow night. I have no more shots for you to look at, so you will have to wait untill tomorrow night to see what I come up with.

Day 7

Today has been a rough day. I got my filming done but I am running out of time considering my critique is tomorrow. At this point, I know I don't have what my instructor wants; he wants three clips and I have just one, obviously one doesn't equal three. So, the grade on this one doesn't look very good. I'll just have to face the music and realize that I'll have to work harder on the next stint of this two part project. As for examples I have none for now, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Day 8

Well, today was a better day. I found out my instructor has extended the critique until Monday of next week, this gives me an extra 4 days to finish my project. It looks like I should have something great to show on critique day. I hope to have at least part of the animation done, not just having him slide, but a full walking cycle. We'll have to see what happens. As for examples, once again, none.

Day 9

Today I made some additions, that would be 2 arms and a row of stand-in tombstones, this is for the animatic of my composition. At this point I need to add some legs and another row of tombstones as well as animate the monster rising up and walking away. I hope to have this done by Saturday night. For now, I have a couple of images for you to look at. The first one is an over all of the scene from the sky, the next is from the camera view.
